SCOPE OF WORK
energy-i-s _power sector

Power

The power sector is undergoing continuous development to meet the growing power demand, as the government aims to increase the share of renewable energy sources and improve the efficiency and reliability of the grid. Egypt has abundant solar and wind resources and has set a target to generate 42% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035. Consequently, the power sector is facing challenges such as reducing reliance on fossil fuels and integrating distributed generation systems. Notable achievements include the completion of the world’s largest solar park in Benban, the expansion of the national grid, and the signing of nuclear power plant agreements. These efforts are focused on enhancing the sustainability and resilience of Egypt’s energy sector, thereby contributing to the country’s economic and social advancement.

energy-i-s _ Oil & Gas

Oil & Gas

The oil and gas sector accounts for approximately 24% of the country’s GDP and attracts significant foreign direct investment. Egypt has a wealth of energy resources, including both traditional fossil fuels and renewable energy sources. At the end of 2020, Egypt’s proven hydrocarbon reserves stood at 3.3 billion barrels of oil and 77.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. More than 50 international oil and gas companies operate in three main geographical areas: the Western Desert, the Gulf of Suez and the Mediterranean Sea. In addition, Egypt plays a pivotal role in global energy markets, with the Suez Canal and the Suez-Mediterranean (SUMED) pipeline serving as key transit routes for oil and LNG shipments. Egypt has the largest refining capacity in Africa, with a nameplate capacity of 840,000 barrels per day.

Petrochemical

The petrochemical sector is a major contributor to GDP, providing raw materials, intermediates and finished products to various sectors, including agriculture, textiles, plastics, paints and detergents. The petrochemical sector also plays a key role in Egypt’s energy security and diversification, as it reduces the country’s reliance on imported fuels and chemicals.
The petrochemical sector has experienced significant growth and development over the past decade, with numerous projects either underway or in the pipeline. The total investment in the sector has now surpassed the government’s initial projections. They have announced plans to invest approximately $40 billion over the next five years to further develop the sector. The sector accounts for approximately 15% of Egypt’s total industrial exports.
